Report: Thibodeau not Kings top candidate 05.31.09 at 10:20 pm ET

After the Philadelphia 76ers hired Eddie Jordan as head coach, Boston assistant coach Tom Thibodeau met with the Sacramento Kings in Las Vegas this weekend regarding their head coaching vacancy. Thibodeau, however, is not the top candidate, according to the Sacramento Bee. The Bee reported former Celtic Paul Westphal is the top prospect, followed by LA Lakers assistant coach Kurt Rambis.

Celtics President Danny Ainge advocated for Thibodeau, telling the Bee, “[He] should be a part of any (current) coaching search.” Ainge also promoted his former coach Westphal, who he played for as a member of the Phoenix Suns –”I’m a big fan of Paul Westphal. He understands people, and he understands personalities, and he has a very, very creative basketball mind. ”

Thibodeau is the only candidate of the pool without head coaching experience.

    dear jessica camerato. thank god tom thibodeau is not the lead candidate for the vacant sacramento kings head coaching job so does this mean tom thibodeau is staying on still the assistant head coach of the boston celtics and do you think the celtics will pick up free agent antonio mcdyess this offseason and hopes off adding much needed length to the bench to compliment the big three and do you also think the celtics will add free agent jamorio moon to the roster what do you think about the additions of the celtics this coming offseason.

    Christopher … McDyess is certainly a free agent to keep an eye on. It depends how much he is looking for (the Pistons paid less than $1M when they signed him in December). Also, he turns 35 this year and that has to be taken into consideration. Moon would be a good fit to give Pierce a back up at the 3-spot. He is, however, a restricted free agent so the Heat can match any offer. Since he only made a little over $700,000 last season he could be very affordable for them to keep around.

    i agree what i meant to say is if that we get mcdyess the celtics can sign him to a veteran mid level term for not too much money the same can be said for jamorio moon because anyway you look at it the celtics do need to improve their bench for next year because they looked flat without garnett in the lineup during their series against the magic do you see them improving their bench for next year also one free agent to keep an eye on is former cleveland cavaliers star anderson varejao which he enters free agency july 1.
