| Report: Suns haven’t talked to Celtics | 06.05.09 at 2:14 pm ET |
Earlier this week, radio station KTAR in Arizona floated the rumor of trade discussions between the Boston Celtics in Phoenix Suns that would send Ray Allen and Rajon Rondo out west in exchange for Amar’e Stoudemire, Leandro Barbosa, and the 14th pick.
The Arizona Republic has reported the Suns have not had conversations with the Celtics:
“There’s a lot of stuff flying around out there that has no basis,” Suns General Manager Steve Kerr said. “There’s just a ton of speculation but there really is nothing substantial going on.
“With most of these deals being speculated about, I haven’t even had a conversation with the opposing team. I read this stuff and laugh.”
The notion of trading forty percent of the Celtics starting lineup is startling at first. But there are reasons why Allen and Rondo could be heard in rumors this offseason. Allen turns 34 this summer and is entering the last year of his contract in which he is set to earn nearly $20 million. His expiring deal – plus proven track record – could make him an attractive option.
Rondo, on the other hand, is just starting to play up to his potential. At 23 he is the type of player a team can build around. The Celtics, however, have to decide how much they want to pay Rondo. He will become a free agent in 2010 so they can either sign him to an extension or take a risk on the going rate next summer.
Either way the Celtics will be financially limited when they try to add depth to their bench this summer and making trades is one way to work around that. It’s only the beginning of June and there is no doubt more rumors like this are sure to follow.

Jessica,
I heard Mike and Dale ask you about the Hoopsworld rumor on trading Rondo and Ray.What i didn’t understand from your conversation,if you started the rumor with Hoopsworld or not? When Holley ask the question specifically did you start the Rondo,Ray rumor, your reply was sort of vague in the Rondo part of it.You said Rondo is a young guy with a lot of potential down the road, etc but you never said whether or not you told Hoopsworld the possibility of Rondo being traded this offseason or in the near future? It was a simple yes or no answer in my opinion but you went around “robin hoods barn”in my opinion. Please give us a clear answer in this matter, yes or no.

To Me That Rumor Makes it Look like the Celtics are in a Panic.
I think We know Danny Ainge Knows What He’s Doing. Might Already have a Plan. What you Think Jessica?

Jessica,
Thanks for the yes or no answer…sometimes its hard to figure out what to think on Dale and Holley, because they are both asking questions.I hope i didn’t sound harsh because i think you do a bang up job when its comes to Celtics reporting. The Celtics are my favorite team and i like knowing whats going on with the players, whether its good or bad.Any new developments happening with Danny making some moves to improve the bench yet,Jess? Please let me know if there is some fresh info in this matter.I am a member of Celtics Blog and would love to be the first to bring the news for a change.
Again thanks for your speedy reply.

dear jessica, camerato. when i read the rumor about the celtics possibly shipping ray allen and rajon rondo to the phoenix suns for amare stoudemire leandro barbosa and phoenix’s#14 pick in this year’s draft and suns general manager steve kerr said he hasn’t talked to the celtics abotu that possible deal do you think at all that the celtics will hopefully soon begin talk’s with the phoenix suns about boston shipping allen and rondo tho phoenix for amare nstoudemire and leandro barbosa do you think that the trade between the two teams will still happen at some point again? you know the old saying goes nwhen there’s smoke there’s fire?

Thanks for the rumor, Jessica,
I think the first half of the Celtics 08-09, with a healthy KG, is being overlooked. They were a truely great team at their best, a clear notch above LA, Cleveland, and Orlando. Its a shame the injury plagued-second half turned in the wrong direction. I understand the teams financial needs, but an Allen/Rondo deal is far from what this team needs.

Who’s going to be the starting point guard?
I can understand moving Ray, but Rondo? Why don’t we trade KG and Paul Pierce too. What the hell?

no way moving ray and rondo for amare will be sick you would have 2 of the best 5 big men in the league on your starting 5 with pierce resign starberry he will be better next year and then youll also get barbosa in the deal to play the 2 or 3 whatever pierce isent playing at the time and then drft s curry and build him up with a starting line up as starberry, barbosa, pierce, amare, and kg then you still have a couple of people that you can still make a deal for a point gaurd if you dont resign starberry trade the 17 pick and bigbaby or perk and we will be able to get a good point for that the team will be sick with amare and barbosa period allens getting old and hurt and rondo already has a ring he is going to want way too much money next year
