Rondo, Perk Trail in First All-Star Voting Update 12.10.09 at 3:56 pm ET
By Jessica Camerato

The first returns from the 2010 NBA All-Star Game voting are in and Kobe Bryant has an early lead.

Bryant received the most votes among all players (692,518) while Dwyane Wade leads the East with 672,227.

Each of the Celtics starters are ranked in the top 10 at their position, but there are a few surprises.

FORWARD: Kevin Garnett is ranked second among all Eastern Conference forwards while Paul Pierce ranks fourth. LeBron James is the East’s leading vote-getter at the forward position.

GUARD: Rajon Rondo ranks eighth among Eastern Conference guards despite leading the conference in assists. Allen Iverson, who has played five games this season, has received nearly 25,000 more votes than Rondo. Looking across the league, though, Rondo received more votes than Deron Williams, who bests Rondo in assists, scoring, and rebounding. Ray Allen ranks fourth in the East.

CENTER: Kendrick Perkins is ranked ninth in the East. The surprise is that Rasheed Wallace, who not only is a reserve but also went through an offensive slump earlier this season, received more than 15,000 more votes than Perkins. Last year’s fan-favorite Dwight Howard has a 400,000-vote lead over second-ranked Shaquille O’Neal in the conference.

Wow-’Sheed with almost twice as many votes as Perk. Not surprised though as Sheed is obviously more popular/well-known. We all know who deserves the more votes though..

We really need to re- assess the way we vote for our all stars in the NBA !!!!
I am a huge celtics fan and might sound objective but Rondo is definitely an all star in this league this year. He easily matches every PG he faces on a nightly basis and has the numbers and wins that speak for them selves. OK he has help but do you really think the only reason he looks so good is because if the big 3 ? No, his skills are far above the rest of the PG in the East and the lack of a jumper seems meaningless when you watch him take over a game time and time again. Let’s be for real and give the best player on the best team what he deserves and quit the popularity contests. We all know that most of the voters are looking at the well known NAMES rather than watching games and seeing who the real impact players (young or old)
Really are. MJ was great but would he deserve to get the all star votes in 2010 over some of o
Our new talent ? Send the legends to the hall of fame and give our young studs the chance to get the recognition they deserve and start a new era of great NBA players. I think we will all be pleasantly surprised who emerges !!!!

Rondo is a true all star the numbers speak for themselves. Give him what he deserves and stop punishing him because he is teammates with some of the greats. He controls every Celtics game and is a true winner without a great jumper !!!!

    PG categories that count:
    Defense: best in east
Scoring: top 5 and could be better if team was not so stacked
Rebounding: top 2 PG in league
Assists and passing : only behind nash and billips both in west
Wins : best team in east even without pierce
Value to team: all celtics agree he makes the team go. His value will be noticed in the absence of pierce and maybe garnett.
