Tony Allen’s mom: ‘I’m sure he hates to leave’ 07.12.10 at 9:22 am ET

After the news came out that Tony Allen would be signing a free agent deal with Memphis, Allen’s mother, Ella Allen, told the Boston Herald, “He is definitely going to miss the Celtics — it’s a great team with great people. I know he is going to miss his friends. He really liked those guys. I’m sure he hates to leave.” She also explained in the article that she believed her son would stay in Boston, adding, “I am very surprised, but my son makes his own decisions, and I support him 100 percent.” But she did recognize the business side of the signing when she told the Herald, “They raised him. But sometimes change is good. It’s a business, and he just had to do what he had to do.”

    The GM, coaches and teammates were great to Tony.

    The “fans”, however, were not. Tony deserves to be some place where he is appreciated. Every compliment that Boston “fans” gave him – was always two-sided.

    Too bad that he’s not a Thunder so he can get back to “Cowboy” country where people still love him!

    NC, I disagree most intelligent Celtic fans loved TA’s intensity and defense and his love for the game, I know I will miss him there’s few better perimeter defenders in the entire NBA. Good luck, TA, when you come back ill be cheering for u.

    i loved his defense and intensity but his offense was sorely lacking. he would more than just occasionally attempt a pass that would have you scratching your head saying why did he try that? he had NO outside shot! technically he was probably one of the worst jump shooters i’ve seen in the pros. videos of his shot will never be shown to a kid trying to learn the correct way to shoot a basketball.
    all that said- i wish he was coming back. i like him.
