Player’s union plans legal challenge to techs 10.14.10 at 9:33 pm ET
By

Billy Hunter, the executive director of the NBA player’s union, said in a statement that the union would mount a legal challenge against the league’s crackdown on technical fouls. Hunter added that the players were not consulted about the rule change before it was implemented.

Here’s the statement:

“We have not seen any increase in the level of ‘complaining’ to the officials and we believe that players as a whole have demonstrated appropriate behavior toward the officials. Worse yet, to the extent the harsher treatment from the referees leads to a stifling of the players’ passion and exuberance for their work, we fear these changes may actually harm our product. The changes were made without proper consultation with the Players Association, and we intend to file an appropriate legal challenge.””

The union’s move comes on the heels of Kevin Garnett’s ejection Wednesday during the Celtics exhibition game with the Knicks. Garnett was issued two quick technical fouls just before the end of the first half.

NBA players are almost (really, ALMOST) worse than tennis players as crybabies. No NBA player other than Dave Cowens) ever admitted that he actually committed the foul he was charged with. You guys make more money than the total budget of a small cpountry, grow up and just play the game before people start to talk about you like they do soccer players )by the way,why is it a “flop” and jeered in soccer, but “taking a charge for the team” in basketball? both are acting and attempted con jobs).

Because a “Flop” and a “charge” are completely different things. A flop is greatly exaggerated contact, and usually the worst cases are those that occur on the offensive end.

Taking a charge, if you beat them to the spot and you’re set, is part of the game, and it’s the rules of the game. Technically, whether or not the player hits the ground, it should be a charge. If Shaq plants his feet and beats them to the spot, and a guard bounces off him and hits the ground, that’s a charge.

Unfortunately Officials are retarded, and the only way that call the fouls is if they see players on the ground. The complete ineptitude of NBA officials has brought about the need for players to exaggerate contact to get the calls. If they called the game right, and see the defensive player gets the spot first and doesn’t move his feet, it shouldn’t matter who ends up on the ground. But they don’t they call fouls reactively, see who hits the floor, make the call; so you have 260lb forwards and centers getting knocked to the ground by 180 lb guards because it’s the only way they’ll get the call.
