Kevin Garnett: ‘I would never be insensitive’ 11.03.10 at 4:48 pm ET

Kevin Garnett just released the following statement in reaction to Charlie Villanueva‘s accusations on Twitter following Tuesday night’s Celtics-Pistons game:

I am aware there was a major miscommunication regarding something I said on the court last night. My comment to Charlie Villanueva was in fact ‘You are cancerous to your team and our league.’ I would never be insensitive to the brave struggle that cancer patients endure. I have lost loved ones to this deadly disease and have a family member currently undergoing treatment. I would never say anything that distasteful. The game of life is far bigger than the game of basketball.

Garnett’s version of the story is far more tame than Villanueva’s claim on Twitter that KG called him “a cancer patient.”

Side note: If KG’s take is accurate, I’ve got to say … that’s some pretty good trash talk. And shame on Villanueva for not only taking to Twitter — but misconstruing Garnett’s message. It’ll be interesting to hear Villanueva’s reaction to KG’s reaction.

    Love em, but don’t buy it. Nobody talks more smack in the league than KG, and I don’t doubt a comment like that to Villanueva.

    Having said that, whatever is done/said within the lines of professional sports shouldn’t EVER be carried over into the real world. Isn’t it kinda like guy-code, leave it on the floor?

    Kg’s version is far more hurtful. If someone called me a cancer patient its kind of like ‘wtf?’… Kids talk even. Saying that you are a disease on the sport you love an breath would get in your head a lot worse. It would for me anyways.

One time when he was here in Minny he was trash talking and then guy on the other team wanted to fight and kg ran away until his teammates arrived and started holding him back and then all of a sudden he was mr tough guy. He also cheats on his wife. He bought a condo for his mistress

    Crap talk is part of pro sports…… what one says on the coourt is just part of the game… what one says off the court is something else and something that one should really pay attention to…..suck up them tweets……making this a big deal makes one a cry baby, a losing kid just saying mommy my playmate says bad thing just to get back for losing…. cry baby sore loser not for pro sports….ya got psyched just go out and play like ya desrve your contract bub!!

    Now Doc backs KG story and we still are waiting for somebody….anybody to come forward to say they heard it CV’s way…..so is everybody turning a blind ear to this misdeed by KG….I doubt it. On the subject a KG being such a chump..etc…this is bball not mma but I’m a big guy and have been near KG and he’s bigger then he seems on tv..really bigger and I doubt his head would just snap. Some folks are just silly.

    From some of these comments, it is clear that the authors have never played basketball (or any sport for that matter). My god, have we come to this!!!!
    KG is talin’ trash to a player. What do you think Bird said in his time?
    I feel real bad that KG hurt little charlie’s feelings. I’m sure that if KG realized that it would get charlie’s panties in a bunch, he would have reconsidered. Someone should tell little charlie that there is no crying in basketball. He should keep his gd mouth shut and play the game. What a wus!!!!!!
