Sasha Vujacic: Celtics ‘trying to act up’ 02.16.11 at 11:53 pm ET
By

You’ll be shocked to hear this, but things got chippy in a Celtics game — again.

Nets forward Kris Humprhies got into a jawing match with Celtics forward Kevin Garnett in the first half, while New Jersey guard Sasha Vujacic and C’s center Kendrick Perkins exchanged words in the second half. On the court, the C’s got the last word in a 94-80 victory. Off the court? Vujacic explained the chippiness.

“I think we started a little bit too soft in the game,” said Vujacic. “They’re a team that plays very well, and they’re trying to act up most of the time, so that’s how they are and how they play. We just can’t back down from that. We’ve got to deliver the first punch and not let them get us on our heels.”

Asked about the Celtics’ trash talk, Nets point guard Devin Harris added, “Nothing surprises me.”

Surprisingly, Vujacic wasn’t overly critical of the Celtics’ style of play; in fact, he credited their experience and ability to play together as a team.

“We played in their home, so everything’s going to be on their side,” added Vujacic. “But let’s face it, they’re one of the teams that are chasing the championship, and they are one of the favorites. They know each other. They know where everybody’s going to be.”

Vujacic and Nets teammate Jordan Farmar both played on another contender to finish last season, as the former was traded from the Lakers to New Jersey for Joe Smith in mid-December and the latter signed with the Nets in the offseason. Told that the Lakers (38-19) lost to the last-place Cavaliers (10-46) on Wednesday night, both guys did a double take.

“Cleveland beat the Lakers?” asked Vujacic. ”You’re kidding, right? I guess miracles do happen.”

Added Farmar, “They’re going to be pissed. That’s three straight.”

Hey Sasha, go take a shower and wash that disgustingly greasy hair of yours.

Seems to me that Sasha (and Farmar) are just made they’re not on the Lakers anymore. I’m sure they’d love to be on the Lake show, even after they just lost to Cleveland.

Can I just say what a reduction to find somebody who truly knows what theyre talking about on the internet. You positively know how one can bring a problem to mild and make it important. More folks must learn this and understand this side of the story. I cant believe youre not more widespread because you positively have the gift.

On the Fakers- I mean Lakers: (why does LA count championships won in Minny? Oh that’s right, they’re insecure about being second best). That being said, the Lakers are the current champs, and I expect they will be better in the playoffs. I would like to see them have 2 series in the playoffs without home court advantage.
As Celtic fans we will always despise Sasha- I wish he was still on the Lakers. Remember 3 years ago in the Finals when Ray blew by him for a layup in the final seconds for the win, like Sasha was frozen in cement? Now Sasha and Farmer are irrelevant. I hope the Nets keep them both when the sign Carmelo. By the way, does anyone think Melo and Avery Johnson is a good combo? They might be able to coexist for a year or two.
Trade deadline in coming. Go Danny- Go!

hey i agree with that 200% ok ,, ive been saying that for many many years the fakers CAN NOT count the titles in another city ok that dont make any sense at all!!!the minnie lakers are in a differant state and city AND THAT CITY timberwolves now count the 5 or 6 titles that the city won way back then??? so my point is that the LA LAKERS CAN NOT COUNT ANY TITLES WON from that city and the timberwolves are counting them aswell ??? lol NO DONT WORK THAT WAY LAKER FANS SORRY !!! the titles was won in a differant city and state AND NO WHERES NEAR L.A.!!!! reallt the fakers have won 11 titles and the wolves and the city and state of minnie has 5 titles thats the reality and truth on that! HEY LA STOP COUNTING TITLES YOU NEVER WON IN LOS ANGLES CALIFORNIA !! THE MINN T-WOLVES BEEN COUNTING THEM SINCE ITS THAT CITYS TO CLAIM NOT YOURS !!! THE BOSTON CELTICS HAVE THE MOST TITLES AND IT WILL STAY THAT WAY FOREVER 11 TITLES IN 13 SEASONS WILL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN !!! THATS A RECORD THAT WONT BE BROKE !! GO CELTICS

If the LA Fakers are claiming titles won by the original Lakers of Minn., who can stop the latter from claiming titles won by LA? The point here is LA can lay claim to only 11 titles as 5 of the 16 were won by Minn. Now I understand why they kept the “Lakers” identity.

Nice job Oklahoma City for being original & honest. What a joke it would have been had they called themselves Oklahoma City Sonics & claim 1 title for their team. Indeed, hypocrites & pretenders abound in the city of make-believe.

I agree about the Lakers’ titles. The ones from Minneapolis, or wherever, days should not count. Good point about Oklahoma City. At least have the common decency to change the name.

Re. what other teams have to say about the way the Cs play: why the ******** **** should anyone in Boston give one good **** about any of that? Listen, I’ve never liked trashtalk basketball, or dirty play, but why should Boston fans take our cue on whether to be concerned about that from teams and pundits of other cities? If we weren’t concerned about Garnett before, why now? Are we such lemmings?

In fact, the line between physical play and dirty play is not always easy to draw. Jabbar used to whine endlessly about Dave Cowens’ purportedly dirty play. Ok, does anyone in Boston recall Dave being anything but a relentlessly hardworking physical player? Should we have started ripping Cowens’ head off, calling him a “douche” and a “jerk” because Jabbar didn’t like him? What if bloggers started picking up on what Jabbar had to say, if there had been bloggers back then? What if there had been ‘Ball Don’t Lie’ or some such thing back then that started demonizing Cowens. Should we also have started demonizing Cowens on cue?

Most teams and people in the basketball world don’t have a clue. I don’t care what they say. Look at the teams lining up to trade their futures away for Carmelo. Who are they to tell us about basketball? They don’t even understand it. They can’t even grasp what a Garnett or a Rondo brings to a team. They just know that they are jealous as hell. They just know that we are the team to beat this year, and their concern is to find ways to try to get into OUR heads, to try to prejudice officials against us, etc. Celtic bloggers and commenters who want to get worked up ought to show some concern of the way other teams seem to be headhunting Rondo.

The main thing about Celtics trash talk and physical play that concerns me is the increasing worry that they are substituting that kind of trashy play for good, fundamental celtics basketball. When our guys get 15 assists and Rondo gets 8 assists, I don’t want to hear about any damn trashtalking from the Cs. Rivers should come down on them for this. If you want to talk trash than play good basketball first and THEN talk trash.
