Jeff Green ‘not even thinking about’ where he’ll play

NBA.com’s David Aldridge caught up with [1] Celtics [2] restricted free-agent forward Jeff Green [3] over the weekend. Like Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo [4], who plans to enroll at the University of Kentucky this fall, Green is taking classes at his alma mater. While Rondo left Kentucky after only one season, Green stayed at Georgetown through his junior year, and he actually only has four more classes remaining.

Of course, Aldridge and Green also talked basketball. While he is modeling parts of his game after NBA stars like Paul Pierce [5], LeBron James [6] and Kobe Bryant [7], he isn’t┬áplanning on playing overseas during the lockout — or even thinking about where he’ll end up once it ends. Here are the highlights …

Of course, Green doesn’t need to think much about whether or not he’ll be back in Boston, since he’s a restricted free agent and that decision remains in the hands of the Celtics. Barring any massive changes to the free agency structure as part of a new collective bargaining agreement, the C’s will either match Green’s best offer or trade his rights. Letting him go for nothing would be a massive public relations gaffe, considering he remains the only possible asset gained from the trade of Kendrick Perkins [11] to the Thunder after Nenad Krstic [12] signed a two-year deal in Moscow.

There has been plenty of Jeff Green news over the past week. In Washington D.C. over the weekend, he played hoops in the Kenner League and then participated in the Celebrity Soccer Challenge with Kobe over the weekend, getting booed after knocking host and soccer Hall of Famer Mia Hamm to the ground [13].

He also gave pointers to 10 Marines from the Wounded Warriors Project [14] who were playing basketball on the White House’s south lawn last Wednesday, meeting President Barack Obama in the process.
