On Thursday, we posted a tongue-in-cheek blog entitled, “Try not to like Celtics’ Jeff Green after this,” detailing the Celtics restricted free agent forward’s commendable association with the Wounded Warriors Project’s basketball game on the White House’s south lawn last week.

Of course, we also noted that the Maryland native would participate in the Celebrity Soccer Challenge in Washington on Sunday — which he did, subsequently knocking host and soccer Hall of Famer Mia Hamm to the ground during a breakaway attempt. Needless to say, a healthy round of boos rained down on Green.

No word on how Hamm’s husband Nomar Garciaparra reacted. If only Green had done the same to Lakers guard Kobe Bryant – who also participated – the 24-year-old might have endeared himself to Celtics fans who grew frustrated with him after he arrived in Boston as part of the deal that sent Kendrick Perkins to the Thunder.

The Washington Examiner caught up with both Bryant and Green at the exhibition. While Bryant discussed the possibility of playing overseas during the NBA lockout following his platelet rich-plasma treatment, Green had some interesting things to say about where he will play next season:

• On potentially playing for his hometown Wizards: “I get that quite a bit. But I just laugh it off. There’s really nothing I can do about that situation. When the time comes, we’ll see where I land, if it’s here, Boston or anywhere else, I’ll be happy.”
• On offseason plans during NBA lockout’s uncertainty: “I’m just doing my offseason like it was a regular offseason. It’s still July. A lot of things can happen in the next two months. You never know what’s going to happen [with the lockout]. Hopefully something does get settled, and I’ll be ready.”

Green will continue to participate in DC’s Kenner League until it comes to a close on  Aug. 7.

I’m sure you’ll also be excited to hear that a team led by Green that also featured fellow first-round NBA draft pick and Georgetown product Greg Monroe, former Hoyas Jonathan Wallace and Tyler Crawford and current Georgetown player Aaron Bowen lost to a bunch of also-rans, 58-53, during Kenner League action on Saturday. Green scored just seven points and missed a potential game-changing 3, outscored by 6-foot-4, 250-pound opponent Craig Hayes of perennial powerhouse … Mount Olive College?

As Hayes told HoyaReport.com, “When I came into the gym and saw we were playing against Jeff Green and Greg Monroe, I thought it would be tough.” To be fair, the report does not tell us how many minutes Green played during the loss. But still …

Jeff Green reportedly laughed at the notion he would play for his hometown Wizards.
