Kevin Garnett: Celtics ‘still a work in progress’

The Celtics’ 99-88 loss to the Bucks was a lot uglier than the final score would suggest, and it left the Garden crowd booing the C’s in Boston’s home opener.
Following the game, Kevin Garnett said that “communication is everything” in remedying what allowed the Bucks, led by Brandon Jennings (21 points, 13 assists) to run all over the C’s.
“I think what you see is we’re still a work in progress, obviously,” Garnett said. “The lack of communication on the court makes it even more difficult, but all in all, we’re still working. We’re still working to get some consistency.
“We’re still playing with the chemistry of different lineups which Doc [Rivers] is playing with simultaneously. We’re still working. No one said this was going to be an easy process. Progress is everything, and that’s what we’ve got to get to. The only good thing about tonight is that we get to play tomorrow.”
The Celtics are now 0-2 on the season, but that isn’t exactly uncharted waters. The C’s started off last season 0-3 before finishing atop the Atlantic division and coming within a win of the NBA finals.
For that reason, Garnett doesn’t feel it’s time to panic about the C’s record. It is, however, time for the Celtics’ roster to gel a little better and begin seeing the results that many envisioned when the roster was built in the offseason.
“We’re only two games into the year. I’m not about to overreact after two games,” Garnett said. “More importantly … chemistry is something that’s probably underrated in our game. Just because you have a very very talented locker room and talented base that looks good on paper, you still have to make it all work and combine it. I think we’re in that process right now.”
