Kevin Garnett is still using ‘bulls*** comments’ from Doc Rivers as motivation 02.02.13 at 12:48 am ET
By

Kevin Garnett has a long memory – at least long enough to remember what Doc Rivers said about his team after the 95-83 loss on Nov. 28 to the Brooklyn Nets.

“If I’m Brooklyn and the league, you’ve got to think we’re pretty soft the way we’re playing,” Rivers said after that game. “We’re a soft team right now; we have no toughness.”

Ouch.

The Celtics seemed to have righted their ship and eventually improved to 20-17. They followed that with a six-game losing streak. They have lost Rajon Rondo and Jared Sullinger for the season in the space of five days. But they have won three straight and have proven toughness even without two star players.

Something Garnett, with 14 points and 10 rebounds, pointed out after the 97-84 win over the Magic Friday night at TD Garden.

“I told you all when Rondo went down, obviously we were going have to pick up the load, and now with Jared, even more,” he said. “He’s a great rebounder for us, great facilitator. Guys now getting opportunities are going to have to come in, like I said with Rondo, it’s going to have to fall on the backs of everybody.”

Then Garnett, asked what the team has learned about itself, brought back Rivers’ comments from late November.

“We have a lot of fight in us,” Garnett said. “I know Doc made his bulls**t comments about us being soft, we’re a team that will fight and we are a team that is very competitive and is very prideful. We’re learning that when you pieces, you learn to fight through with each other and follow that. More than anything, we’re just being competitive out here and sharing the basketball and playing.”

    • quit complaning

thats one more ring than you have

      • Coolmt02

And one more ring than you have and one more ring than all those who never played in the NBA …

    • i still belive

I love how guys like you bash on a player only having one ring. thats one more than we’ll ever have.

    • BleedGreen

Yeah and 2 minutes from a second, a KG injury from another Finals appearance, and a game 7, the-refs-hand-everything-to-LBJ loss last year.

      • Coolmt02

The bottom line is all that matters. And don’t make excuses like the LeBron thing. Celtics fans don’t make excuses.

    • Enough Said

He’s going to be in the Hall of Fame, you complete and utter moron.

  • Coolmt02

    ONE hit wonders …

  • MintyMint

Shut up loser.  I love KG.  I appreciate every minute he wears the Green.

  • Coolmt02isgay

coolmt02 get a life man.  Go get butt hurt by your boyfriend.

    • Coolmt02

What if I am “gay” / homosexual?!

What does a strangers sexual orientation matter to you?

      • Jjm1488

It doesn’t matter… you just suck

        • Coolmt02

It clearly matters to “coolmt02isgay” since HE brought it up.

          • Jonsuch85

Gay straight it doesn’t matter either way your an idiot. Every year kg and Paul suit up together we’re a contender . He may only have one ring but that’s one more than most. Every year you think there done and they prove you wrong by exceeding the odds. Why? Because they have more heart and pride than most and respect what it means to our on a Celtic Jersey.

          • Fab4ever

Maybe he meant “happy” …you’re “happy”….however, you open yourself up for ridicule when you trash the Green…it’s OK to win ONE championship…for guys like you, it’s all or nothing? Just sayin…

          • Coolmt02

I am not trashing the color green. I like the color green; I like many colors.

          • 364NKL

            Pink must be your favorite.

      • Bruinman86

So either you are aiming for “Troll of the Week” honors, or you seriously dislike the Celtics.  Which is it?

        • Coolmt02

I LOVE the Celtics .. However, it was “coolmt02isgay” who brought up the comments that were rude and obnoxious.

          • Bruinman86

You posted the first 2 comments “One Ring…..” and “One Hit Wonders….” thus the question.

          • 364NKL

            If the shoe fits.

  • San Diego Dreamer

Getting back to Doc……He was right they were soft. Got KG’s attention.

  • Coolmt02

The Celtics are Soft .. Doc Rivers was 100% correct. They’re slow, old and playing with no energy.

  • yazorrbird

In the 6 years KG and Paul have been together there have been 5 different champions, Lakers, Heat, Spurs, Mavs and our BELOVED BOSTON CELTICS!!  So if the Celtics suck, what about the other 25 teams???

  • Tkillay

When you take 80% jump shots and everyone stands around the perimeter, no offensive rebounds, low # of foul shots and of you remember how many offensive rebounds Miami got last sunday you have to chalk it up to something. Either style of play, lack of effort or inferior talent. Sorry Kev. The Celtics are an average team that can only getter better with tenacity and smarter play.

  • markfromlynn

I find it humorous that some “fans” can criticize the Celtics for “only” winning one NBA title since 2008. They’ve also been to the NBA finals ( 2010) and Conference finals 3 times since then. Try asking fans of the Nets,Cavs,Raptors or even the Knicks if they’d be happy with that and you’d get a resounding HELL YEAH!

    • Coolmt02

I agree other fans would be happy with one title .. However, these are the Boston Celtics we’re talking about .. we have higher expectations than all other franchises except for the Lakers.

      • markfromlynn

Trust me…no one was more pissed they lost Game 7 with 6 mins. left in 2010. But I’d much rather live in a place like Boston where competing for a title is expected and the teams usually are in the mix than to live say in a place where simply making the playoffs is a huge accomplishment.

  • Joe33

I am just wondering where Bruinman’s mother’s basement is. We need to find this guy and put an end to his nonsense…..

  • 123Star

hey, you make tens of millions and you want to keep on getting payed–right
to tell you the truth, I’m tired of seeing the same faces, when the younger players have the same talent. today players play for their own self image- stats etc.. team work I don’t see it, it’s turned into a show instead of a game.  watch college ball and you will see a game of high energy.
celts can’t let go of the old guys, why?????
