Kevin Garnett isn’t about to waive his no-trade clause 02.16.13 at 3:28 pm ET

Kevin Garnett

Speaking at media availability during All-Star Weekend in Houston, Celtics forward Kevin Garnett said he wasn’t intent on waiving his no-trade clause. Garnett responded with a “No,” when asked if there was any circumstance he would consider waiving the clause.

He later added, “Why would I come back and make the visits to rally this team to go further only to be set up to have change?”

At one point, Garnett asked if the only questions would be trade-related. He then relented when a reminder was offered regarding Thursday’s trade deadline.

“I get it. I get it,” he said. “It’s all good. If it’s up to me, I’m going to live and die green all day.”

Earlier Saturday, Yahoo! Sports reported the Celtics and Clippers were in discussions regarding a deal that would send Garnett to Los Angeles, and Eric Bledsoe and DeAndre Jordan to Boston.

    Please KG, never leave.

  • True Story

Wish there were more athletes like him

  • Boris

That first sentence is ominous. “Why would I come back and rally only to be set up for change…”
I fear Danny the dealer is at it again. Ordway and Garnett the same weekend! Im not going to make it!

  • Larry33

I love KG, he was my favorite player before he got here, but if they can build for the future by trading him now then they have to. If he is unwilling to waive his no trade and help this franchise and it’s future, then we are screwed. No free agents want to come here and this franchise will spend another decade or two looking for answers. Help us by leaving KG, we still love you.

    • Deepimpactangel

We have players for the future in green, sully, barbosa, bradly, and rondo. Trading garnett would be foolish when we can win a championship now.

      • Larry33

That team of the future you are talking about can’t win anything. Green is a sixth or seventh man at best, Barbosa isn’t young and he’s a bench player as well. Sullinger is an injured rookie and Bradley is a great defender with average offensive skills at best and Rondo is no leader just a distributor, overrated point guard. But, if you can get Jordan and Bledsoe, you get two young players to develop with the rest of those guys and build that way. This team will not win a title with KG on the roster again. It’s over, accept it, it’s okay, you just have to be willing to let go and start over.

Celtic basketball is as much about the players as it is the championships. This current squad will make the playoffs, and they’ll do it again next year. They’ll always contend with KG and Pierce leading the way, so what’s the problem with keeping them and watching two all-time Celtic legends ride off into the sunset in the heat of battle? Haven’t they proven themselves enough and earned that right? Of course they have. Don’t they embody the Celtic basketball tradition every minute they’re on the court? Of course they do. Won’t they continue their leadership and instruction of the younger players in what it means to be a Celtic and what it takes to put in the jersey? Of course they will.

Exactly. It is funny that the Spurs are considered they gold standard in the NBA right now and guess what, you don’t have to spend every year hearing about Duncan getting traded or Ginobli because the market is not overrun with wannabe gms. KG helped restore honor to this franchise and signed a contract to come back here not to be traded to this place or that. Enough already with all these fantasies of run of the mill good NBA players who are going to bring us all these future titles.

I dont want to see Kevin Garnett leave, I really don’t care how long it takes to rebuild this team, Kevin don’t you dare waive your no trade clause..you are all that is Celtics tradition.

  • San Diego Dreamer

Hey, No is No. What is all this trade talk? Love you KG.

  • Coolmt02

Garnett is OVERRATED. He can’t lead the C’s to a championship. Either trade or release him.

    • True Story

You mean like the championship he helped them get in 2008? True story.

      • Coolmt02

in 2012-2013 .. I’m not talking the past

    • Chris

He already did LEAD c’s to a championship moron

      • Coolmt02

I’m talking 2012-2013 and beyond .. I’m NOT talking the past.

    • team guy

Your not rated. We are very lucky to have had KG.He is a team guy through and through.

  • Cfn

As DA said before the value of KG and PP is higher right here in Boston now for teams are not going to give up their young talent to get a year out of them.  A trade is ridiculous when most likely they will retire next year.  This team will be great this year as well as next year.

  • The_Public_Sucks

I am mixed about KG.  If they can get Bledsoe and Jordan, then Danny might have to pull the trigger, and I can’t fault him.  I would rather keep the team in tact and see what you can get for Rondo over the summer.  One thing is – it is rare that when a good trade for the C’s is proposed I say no, I wanna keep KG.  Also, Coolmt02 is dumb as a stump.  If he/she/it is a troll or not.

  • Billy

I hope the Big Ticket stays in Boston!

  • Connolly736

KG is a bad dude. Rare type. Danny you better not trade him. True Celtic fans will live and die rooting for this team as long as Garnett is leading it… Trade him, and I’m done with this team for awhile… I don’t know how long, but awhile for sure…

  • Mbclifford

Kevin Garnett is a Celtic – now, forever….always.  Go KG!

  • Matt

I agree with Larry. The young pieces that this team has cannot and will not win a title. Not even close. Absolutely laughable to even suggest that. Ainge might as well ride these last 2-3 years of Pierce and KG out. The team won’t win a title, but that’ll at least give fans something to be happy about (KG and Pierce retiring in green) before the team becomes irrelevant and the 3rd, and depending on how the Sox young prospects do the next few years. maybe even the last team in town, considering the ridiculous future the bruins have with their young roster players and good prospect pool, and the pats will be strong for the next 6 or so years.

  • mike

KG is not going anywhere. The Pats are going to be good for the next 6 years eh Matt, what do you base that on besides your fantasy world? Predicting 6 years ahead is moronic. PERIOD.

  • MOLLY

KG isn’t going anywhere. The team and the fans will revolt if Danny trades him.
