Irish Coffee: Kevin Garnett loves Celtics, hates Craig Sager suits

The only thing worse than the NBA’s All-Star Weekend festivities was TNT sideline reporter Craig Sager‘s suit — a hideous monstrosity even by Sager’s standards. No wonder Kevin Garnett won’t play in another All-Star Game.

“Hey, man, stop wearing stuff like this when you do real interviews,” said Garnett, who finished scoreless in just six minutes of action during the East’s 143-138 loss to the West. “Straight up.”

“What’s wrong with it?” asked Sager.

“You look like a Christmas ornament,” Garnett countered.

Gotta love Sager playing naive. Perhaps he forgot Garnett telling him in 2008, “You can’t just grab something from the 1970s and bring it back,” or in 2009, “You take this outfit home, and you burn it.” But surely he recalls Saturday’s All-Star Game practice, when a mutual love of clowning Sager’s suits resolved any lingering conflict over the taste of Honey Nut Cheerios between Garnett and Carmelo Anthony:

Apparently, the only thing KG loves more than ragging on Sager’s suits is his contract from the Celtics.

He told reporters on Saturday that he would not waive his no-trade clause for any deal, including the rumored one that would make him a teammate of his buddy Chauncey Billups and send him closer to his Malibu home in exchange for Eric Bledsoe and DeAndre Jordan. Although, the Clippers remain convinced otherwise.

“If Boston came to him with the trade, and he knew they wanted to do it,” a source told Yahoo! Sports columnist Marc J. Spears, “he would change his mind.” Because changing Kevin Garnett’s mind is so simple.

Despite KG’s adamant stance on remaining in green, Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix insisted on Dennis & Callahan that the Garnett-to-Clippers discussion is more than just smoke and Yahoo! guru Adrian Wojnarowski’s sources said: “If Chris [Paul] wants him, they’ll push harder for it.” This isn’t Bleacher Report we’re talking about.

“I think people are just talking,” Paul told reporters Saturday. “At the end of the day, who wouldn’t want to have Kevin Garnett on their team? I talk about that guy all day, every day, his intensity to the game and how he plays the game. He’s a special player. That’s a guy right there that I looked up to for a long time. Me and Chauncey are really close, and he and Chauncey are really close, and everything I know about him is that he’s a very loyal guy.”

And Garnett’s loyalty resides in Boston. He put the onus on himself when he declared he wouldn’t waive his no-trade clause. This time, he wasn’t being cryptic. No matter how much Celtics president Danny Ainge can get the Clippers or anybody else to sweeten the pot, the decision ultimately rests with Garnett.
