Paul Pierce: Pinched nerve causing ‘up-and-down’ performance, will last ‘until the season’s over’ 02.28.13 at 1:10 pm ET
By

WALTHAM — Two weeks, Celtics president Danny Ainge divulged during a game broadcast that Paul Pierce had been playing through a pinched nerve in his neck for two months, and before Thursday’s practice the C’s captain admitted the pain will continue for the rest of the season, if not longer.

“I probably won’t be fully recovered from it until the season’s over, if I ever do,” said Pierce. “I’ve probably got a little bit of nerve damage in the back part of my neck, but it’s something I’ve been playing through over the last couple months, so I’m probably about as healthy as I’m probably going to be for the rest of the season right now.”

Pierce shot below 40 percent from the field and 30 percent from 3-point range in January, and while those numbers improved this month, he’s having his worst shooting season in nearly a decade, making just 41.9 percent of his field goals after converting better than 44 percent in each of his previous five seasons.

“I really don’t try to pay attention to it during the game,” he said. “I don’t let little injuries try to affect me. I don’t really think about it. It’s probably been the reason I’ve been up-and-down a lot. Sometimes you get a sharp pain. There are times when I have a stinger go through the same part of my neck where the pain is happening, and it’s happening a lot more than normal, whether it be in practice or a game, so it’s something I’ll deal with after the season.”

i gotta say rameirez is as important as any player boston ever had.think about the success we enjoyed from the day he went into that lineup.he also made them very watchable with his star power.as far as the peds go would you rather we didnt enjoy that success.i dont think many would give up those years.the play when he went up the wall and high fived the fan and then prcoceded to gun down the runner was the best or at least the most entertaining play ive ever seen.

manny was an absolutely perfect sighning for boston.we got him for his prime years after he got groomed in a great cleveland lineup.people complained about the doe he got.but looking at it now i think he was a great deal he never faltered on an eight year deal which is amazing.i really think he was as good a bat as humanly possible.watching manny put up the most professional  at bats ive ever seen was awesome.the only other 2 players ive seen with that skill set are miggy and al belle.all 3 were capable of tripple crowns.obviously miggy did it.

It seems the way to beat the Patriots is keep 8 in protection send two deep and score touchdowns.

And you are a pooper scooper.

How do you figure?  He actually won a real championship and played his butt off doing so.  No way they win without his 2 way play.  Now to be fair, he is a shell of his former self, but that can be contributed to age and injury.

This would also lead one to suspect there was no way they could consummate a trade with anyone given this news…info which they couldn’t withhold.  In turn, explains why they couldn’t get KG to waive his “no-trade”.   So let’s get off Danny’s back.

A real star … A real leader doesn’t make excuses for inconsistent play or bad play. They simply own their play.

“ It’s probably been the reason I’ve been up-and-down a lot ” …. Just play and don’t explain your injuries to excuse your play.

You’ve obviously never played any type of competitive sports. That is the most overused and moronic statement in sports today. “Don’t make  excuses”…Injuries…particularly nerve injuries, will certainly alter an athlete’s mechanics and comfort level while he’s competing. We’re not talking about a sore knee here.Let someone smack you on the collarbone then try to raise your arms over your head. You’ll be lucky to get your arms parallel to your shoulders without crying like a little girl.
