Add Isaiah Thomas to the list of critics who are unimpressed with the package the Kings received in return for DeMarcus Cousins.

Moments after the All-Star Game, the Kings traded Cousins to the Pelicans Sunday night. New Orleans sent over Buddy Hield, Tyreke Evans, Langston Galloway, a 2017 first-round pick and a 2017 second-rounder to Sacramento. It’s a weak return, considering Cousins is arguably a Top 10 player in the league. The three-time All-Star has recorded 34 double-doubles in 55 contests this season.

Thomas, who was teammates with Cousins in Sacramento, appears dumbfounded by the move.

For the record, Thomas is correct. NBA 2K17’s virtual general manager did reject the trade.

The Celtics reportedly didn’t try to acquire Cousins, despite at least two years of rumors linking the two of them. Cousins, 26, is due to be a free agent in 2018. The Pelicans will likely offer Cousins a five-year, $180 million contract in order to keep him in New Orleans.

When asked about Cousins last October, Thomas praised his talented, yet mercurial former teammate.

“If he came to Boston, that would be good, really good,” he told the Sporting News. “The thing is, I’ve got his respect. I’ve always had that.”

With control of the Nets’ next two first-round picks, the Celtics have plenty of assets if they want to give Thomas another running mate before Thursday’s trade deadline.

Celtics rumors: C’s could be in on Jahlil Okafor, but here’s why that makes no sense 02.20.17 at 11:26 am ET

Jahlil Okafor

Jahlil Okafor

Another day, another NBA trade rumor involving the Boston Celtics. The latest: Jahlil Okafor.

With Joel Embiid blowing up and the 76ers already cursed with more big men than they can find minutes for, Okafor is once again on the trade block. And according to ESPN’s Marc Stein, the C’s are interested.

“Okafor is kind of still there,” Stein told ESPN Radio. “He’s been so out there that you tend to think Philadelphia will find something in the next three days where they move him. I’ve heard that Boston has still given that some consideration. Chicago’s another team that’s been said to have shown some Okafor interest.”

All due respect, Okafor makes little sense for the Celtics once you look past the fact that the former No. 3 overall picks is tall. The Celtics can’t rebound, but neither can Okafor. He’s averaging a paltry 4.8 rebounds per game, and his 7.5 rebounds per 36 minutes puts him right in line with Celtics Avery Bradley (7.1) and Al Horford (7.2).

Neither is Okafor a rim protector (1.1 blocks per game) or floor spacer (1-for-6 on 3-pointers lifetime). He’s considered slow defensively, he’s a throwback post scorer, and he doesn’t take opposing big men away from the basket, like Horford or Kelly Olynyk do, which means he’d just be clogging the lane for Isaiah Thomas, who needs space to operate.

So yeah, I’m not buying the C’s having any interest in Okafor. He fills exactly zero of their needs. Don’t let last year’s 17.5 points a game fool you — the Sixers were terrible, and someone needed to score. Now that they know Embiid represents their future, alongside injured No. 1 overall pick Ben Simmons, once he gets healthy, Okafor’s numbers will continue to suffer.

He’s not a fit in Boston, and certainly not if the price is one of the Nets picks.

It was an eventful Sunday with DeMarcus Cousins and ended with him being traded.

According to Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojanarowski, the Kings were fully engaged in trade talks centered on Cousins throughout the day.

Some thought the Celtics could have been one of those teams, considering the assets they have, but that was not the case. The Celtics were not one of the teams speaking with the Kings on Sunday about a potential Cousins deal, according to the Boston Herald’s Steve Bulpett.

Wojanarowski reports the Lakers were turned down by the Kings and late Sunday night the Kings agreed to trade Cousins to the Pelicans in a deal that includes Buddy Hield and a 2017 first-round pick.

Even though it doesn’t look like the Celtics were in on Cousins, they still likely will try and make a trade before Thursday’s trade deadline.

It remains to be seen whether or not the Celtics will make a huge splash at the deadline, but if they don’t it’s possible they look to improve their team with a few smaller moves.

A smaller move could be acquiring Suns wing-man P.J. Tucker.

According to the Sporting News’ Sean Deveney, the Celtics have “expressed deep interest” in Tucker.

He’s averaging seven points and six rebounds this season with the Suns, and has an expiring contract.

Obviously, this wouldn’t be a huge move, but would still improve the roster by adding depth at a position that needs it, as well as being able to hold on to larger assets.

Sacramento reportedly engaging in trade talks involving DeMarcus Cousins, could Celtics be interested? 02.19.17 at 6:02 pm ET

Another trade deadline, another week of DeMarcus Cousins trade talks.

According to Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski, Sacramento has been engaging in trade talks on All-Star center DeMarcus Cousins in recent days.

Wojnarowski notes New Orleans and the Kings have had recent discussions, but the Kings are still debating Cousins’ future internally.

If they are inclined, the Celtics certainly have the assets to make a trade happen with all of their draft picks, but it’s a matter of would the Celtics actually want to swing a deal to land Cousins. Cousins does not have a good reputation across the league when it comes to his attitude.

The 26-year-old is signed through the end of next season and is averaging 27.8 points and 10.7 rebounds per game this season with the Kings.

When it comes to the Celtics, this is certainly a player that is worth monitoring as Thursdays trade deadline nears.

Celtics-Bulls reportedly have engaged in talks in potential trade involving Jimmy Butler 02.19.17 at 11:00 am ET

Could Jimmy Butler be coming to Boston? (Dennis Wierzbicki/USA Today Sports)

Could Jimmy Butler be coming to Boston? (Dennis Wierzbicki/USA Today Sports)

Will the Bulls trade Jimmy Butler? If so, could the Celtics be able to land the Bulls’ star?

The answer could be yes, and yes as the NBA trade deadline fast approaches.

According to Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski, the two teams have engaged in preliminary talks on a potential deal, but “have not gotten far down the road on it.”

Wojnarowski notes the Bulls organization needs to be fully in agreement that they want to rebuild and thus trade such a good player in Butler.

If the Bulls do indeed want to trade Butler, the Celtics have a number of high draft picks, which is what the Bulls would want, but then it would be a question of exactly what picks it would take to get a deal done.

Butler is 27 years old and is averaging 24.5 points per game this season. The guard is signed through the 2019-20 season.
