| Fast Break: Bucks stampede Celtics in Garden debut | 11.02.12 at 9:46 pm ET |
So much for the Celtics keeping their house clean, as Paul Pierce vowed in the days leading up to the team’s home opener on Friday night, because the Bucks muddied up the Garden paint all night long.
Led by their backcourt of Brandon Jennings (21 points), Monta Ellis (14 points) and wing Tobias Harris (18 points) — among the many Bucks who seemed to coast to the basket at will –Milwaukee scored 52 points in the paint, built a lead as high as 22 and never looked back in a 99-88 blowout.
But, hey, at least Jeff Green made some baskets (11 points, 5-9 FG), so the Celtics have that going for them. Kevin Garnett (15 points), Rajon Rondo (14 points, 11 assists), Paul PIerce (11 points), Brandon Bass (10 points) and Jason Terry (10 points) also reached double figures. Here’s what else happened:
| Rajon Rondo: ‘I’m at my best when I’m in transition’ | 03.01.12 at 1:36 am ET |
For whatever reason, 26-year-old Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo and the aging Big Three haven’t been on the same page all season. Hence the team’s 17-17 record. Whether that’s the result of the All-Star point guard’s stubbornness or the unwillingness of three Hall of Famers to follow a younger, better leader or any number of other reasons is free to debate.
But one thing is certain: When Rondo plays the way he did in a 102-96 win over the Bucks Wednesday, recording his third double-double of the season while orchestrating the offense to near perfection, these Celtics might actually have a chance to salvage this season.
“We did a better job executing offensively tonight,” said Rondo (15 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists), as usual simplifying the game to its most basic elements. “We got into our sets, and we executed — and we scored.”
Paul Pierce knows it. Kevin Garnett knows it. And Doc Rivers knows it. When Rondo runs the floor and sets the table early, he puts everyone in a better position to win ballgames.
“He got us organized earlier,” said Rivers. “The second half, he called 12 different sets, and we got to the first option, second option, and it just looked organized and good. And that’s who we were, and that’s who we have to be. And I thought it was Rondo’s doing.”

Remember that scene in the movie “Billy Madison” when Adam Sandler apologizes to Steve Buscemi for teasing him in high school, so Buscemi crosses him off his “kill list”? You kind of getting the feeling that NBA point guards should start finding reasons to apologize to Rajon Rondo.
With the possible exception of a stretch in late February and early March — when Rondo will face Deron Williams, Steve Nash, Stephen Curry and Brandon Jennings in consecutive games — the Celtics point guard won’t face another stretch like he has over the past four games.
In six nights, Rondo faced Jennings, Derrick Rose, Russell Westbrook and Jason Kidd, finishing 3-1 — with the defeat arriving in an 89-87 loss to Kidd’s Mavericks Monday night in Dallas.
Despite battling mild plantar fasciitis, Rondo outplayed them all. See for yourself …

The difference, though, went beyond the numbers. Rondo dictated the tempo against each of them on offense and disrupted the normal flow of his opponents’ games on defense. Read the rest of this entry »
