Report: Celtics to meet with Kwame Brown 07.06.10 at 3:43 pm ET
By   |  Comments Off

The Boston Herald reported Tuesday that the Danny Ainge and Doc Rivers have scheduled a meeting with Kwame Brown for Wednesday in Orlando.

“We’re checking out a lot of possibilities — it’s still very early in the process,” Ainge told the Herald.

Brown spent the last two seasons with the Pistons, averaging 3.3 points and 3.7 rebounds in 13.8 minutes per game in 2009-10. The top overall pick of the 2001 NBA draft has never lived up to that selection, playing for four NBA teams (Wizards, Lakers, Grizzlies, Pistons) and averaging 6.7 points and 5.4 rebounds in his nine-year career.

Ainge also told the Herald that he has not set up a meeting with Shaquille O’Neal.

Rumors: Shaq weighs offer from Hawks at 8:12 am ET

While the Celtics reportedly have shown interest in veteran center Shaquille O’Neal, he also is considering a two-year offer from the Hawks that starts at the mid-level exception of $5.8 million, according to AOL FanHouse. The Hawks, who agreed to a max contract with Joe Johnson over the weekend, are in need of a center.

“I think he wants to see how everything shakes out with all the free agents, but he’s seriously considering Atlanta’s offer,” the story quotes a source. “He wants to play two more years, and he wants it to be with a contender. He thinks he can help them become a serious one.”

Rumors: Knicks hear offers for Lee 07.05.10 at 9:04 am ET
By   |  1 Comment

If the Celtics are interested in Knicks forward David Lee ‘€” reportedly, they contacted him on Thursday, the first day free agents could be courted ‘€” they might want to act quickly. The New York Post is reporting that the Knicks have been offered Warriors guard Monta Ellis and Timberwolves big man Al Jefferson in separate sign-and-trade scenarios, and there is some speculation of a three-way trade, sending Lee to Minnesota, Jefferson to Golden State and Ellis to New York.

Lee met with the Timberwolves for nine hours on Saturday, after conferring with the Bulls and Heat the day before. The 2010 All-Star becomes expendable in New York assuming the Knicks are able to lure Amare’ Stoudemire to Madison Square Garden. Stoudemire spent Sunday in New York, capping his day there with a party at the home of Knicks owner James Dolan.

The New York Post also has more about LeBron James‘ second meeting with the Knicks on Saturday.

C’s draft pick Bradley faces ankle surgery 06.25.10 at 2:52 pm ET
By   |  Comments Off

Celtics draft picks Avery Bradley and Luke Harangody were introduced to the media at a press conference at the Celtics training facility in Waltham Friday. Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge indicated that Bradley will have arthroscopic surgery on his ankle that will knock him out of summer league action, although the guard is expected to be ready to return in August and participate in training camp.

‘€œRight now, I’m just looking to get back and get ready so I can start training camp,’€ said Bradley, who will wear a zero on his Celtics jersey.

Harangody, who is going with No. 55, is ready to prove himself all over again. “I feel like I paid my dues in college,” he said. “I wasn’€™t good enough to get into the first round, but I feel like I just have to start all over again and just do the same thing as when I came to college because I wasn’€™t a big name then.”

Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge said center Kendrick Perkins may have torn the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during Game 6 of the NBA finals, according to a Boston Herald report. It was initially believed that Perkins tore the medial collateral and posterior cruciate ligaments, but the extent of the damage won’t be known for sure until Dr. Brian McKeon performs the surgery. That surgery originally was scheduled for Friday but was pushed back to allow the swelling to subside.

Draft rumors: Hornets’ No. 11 pick available 06.24.10 at 11:04 am ET
By   |  Comments Off

Yahoo! Sports reports that the Hornets are listening to offers for the No. 11 pick because they need money. The pick probably would come with the requirement that the acquiring team take on the salary of former Celtic James Posey or Julian Wright. This comes on the heels of rumors that star point guard Chris Paul could be traded if the right deal comes along.

Yahoo! also reports that the Kings have settled on Kentucky big man DeMarcus Cousins with the fifth pick.

The New York Daily NewsFrank Isola reports that the Knicks, without a first-round pick, are looking to find a way into the first round, with their sights set on Iowa State forward Craig Brackins, New Mexico small forward Darinngton Hobson or Maryland guard Greivis Vasquez.

LA Times: McHale in running for Clippers job at 10:40 am ET
By   |  1 Comment

While Kevin McHale has been mentioned as a possible successor to Doc Rivers should the Celtics coach elect to take some time off, The Los Angeles Times reported that the Hall of Fame big man is one of the names being considered to lead the Clippers.

Here’s what the Times story had to say:

According to league sources who were not authorized to speak publicly, the Clippers are interested in Dallas assistant coach Dwane Casey, former Bulls coach Vinny Del Negro, former Atlanta coach Mike Woodson, former Minnesota executive and Hall of Famer Kevin McHale, and possibly ESPN’s Mark Jackson, who played for the Clippers, and Utah assistant Tyrone Corbin.

McHale, who coached the Timberwolves twice on an interim basis, had informal discussions with the Bulls before they filled their coaching vacancy, and was believed to have interviewed with the Cavaliers.

Del Negro is coming off back-to-back playoff appearances in Chicago, and Woodson the same with the Hawks. Casey was a finalist for the Hawks job recently filled by Larry Drew. More important, he has head-coaching experience in the NBA, having been at Minnesota for a season and a half, and incidentally, followed McHale on one of the interim periods.
