Celtics injuries revealed 05.19.09 at 11:51 am ET

If the Celtics looked banged up during the playoffs, that’s because they were.

“Ray Allen had a hamstring problem throughout the Orlando series that was not getting better,” Doc Rivers said on WEEI’s Dennis & Callahan Show. “Paul (Pierce) had some bone spurs that may need to be removed as well. (Kendrick Perkins) may have to have a procedure on his shoulder… In Ray’s case, I thought his hamstring was bothering him a lot. That could have had an effect on him (during the Magic series).”

Allen averaged just over 11 points through the first six games of the Eastern Conference Semifinals. He was a non-factor from behind the arc before regaining his touch in the Celtics Game 7 loss.

As for the most talked about injury on the Celtics, Rivers had little news to offer on Kevin Garnett, who turns 33 today.

“I don’t think there will be much more (than reported),” he said. “I think it will be the strained tendon and the bone spur. What they started thinking at the end was that maybe the bone spur had something to do, maybe it started rubbing against the tendon and that’s what kept it inflamed. But they don’t know that. That’s just an assumption.”

Following a 101-82 loss to the Orlando Magic in Game 7 Sunday night, Celtics forward Brian Scalabrine said the Celtics missed Kevin Garnett in the playoffs. “(We missed him) a ton and I noticed it this year in the postseason more than the regular season because he’s so intelligent defensively,” Scalabrine said. “He is a special basketball player and you see it now. We’re going home and he’s sitting over there in a suit and you’re thinking what could’ve been.”

Noah on KG: Not my favorite player anymore 05.02.09 at 7:15 pm ET
By   |  19 Comments

There was a time when Kevin Garnett was Joakim Noah’s favorite NBA player.

Those days are long gone.

“I don’t care about him at all. I don’t care about him at all,” Noah said before Game 7. “He used to be my favorite player. Not my favorite player any more.”

There was a time when Noah admired Garnett’s passion. He has been witnessing it in the Celtics-Bulls first round match up, as an injured Garnett has been emotional on the sidelines.

“He’s talking the whole time,” Noah said. “You can tell that he’s really passionate about his team, especially when things are going well.”

But he stopped looking up to Garnett when he got to the NBA in 2007. It wasn’t just because they were wearing different uniforms, either. Even though Noah cannot deny Garnett’s talent, that’s where the compliment ends.

“He’s a great player,” he said. “Now that I hear stories, I see how he is, not a big fan. “

Game 7 Garnett Chatter 05.01.09 at 8:37 am ET

There were rumors of a possible return even before Kevin Garnett decided to hold off knee surgery. There were the conspiracy theorists who believed KG would suit up if it came down to a Celtics/Cavs Eastern Conference Finals. Reggie Miller believed Garnett would return even sooner if the Celtics made it out of the first round.

But now the Celtics are tied 3-3 with the Bulls and elimination is on the line. It was only inevitable that the rumors — remember, nothing has been confirmed — would heat up.

Following the Celtics Game 6 triple-overtime loss, ESPN’s Gene Wojciechowski addressed the issue:

Even more interesting is the rumor, nothing more, that the injured Kevin Garnett might attempt a Game 7 return.

“You must be one of those conspiracy theorists,” said Allen, when asked to divulge any secret Garnett-will-play scenarios.

Allen has acted in movies, but he seemed to play it straight on the possibility of a Garnett return. He said Garnett is “anxious,” but wouldn’t you be if you had to watch Marbury?
